City of Richland Downtown Loop webpageIn 2024, the City of Richland partnered with Tripepi Smith to provide strategic communications support for The Downtown Loop project, a downtown revitalization effort aimed at improving traffic flow, parking and safety. The project will reconfigure George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue into a one-way couplet and include new safety features like barrier-separated two-way bike lanes, wider sidewalks and upgraded lighting.

Over the past year, Tripepi Smith has proactively supported the City’s robust outreach and engagement campaign, positioning the project well ahead of the anticipated spring 2026 groundbreaking. The team kicked off public outreach by launching a dedicated project website and creating the project’s branding and visual identity.

The City prioritized engagement with properties directly impacted by the project to increase awareness and foster two-way communication. Efforts included direct phone calls and emails to all properties, informational mailers, two dedicated stakeholder meetings to gather feedback and lawn signs to support businesses.

To maintain momentum and continue engaging the public, the City hosted an in-person community meeting attended by more than 120 residents and business owners and more. The City also plans to host a virtual community meeting to provide a more detailed update on the anticipated construction timeline in early 2026.

“The Downtown Loop is a major investment in our City’s future and will transform how residents and visitors experience downtown,” said Richland City Manager Jon Amundson. “We remain committed to providing clear, accessible information throughout this process and ensuring our businesses feel supported during construction. The early engagement work supported by Tripepi Smith has set us up for success.”

Outreach and engagement support is led by Director Sydni Overly, Senior Business Analyst Dana Sovinec, Business Analyst Olivia Rizzuto and Junior Business Analyst Flor Porras. Tripepi Smith will continue providing strategic communication support as the project moves into the next phase. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026, with completion anticipated in late 2027.

“Richland’s commitment to thoughtful planning and community engagement sets a strong foundation for impactful projects like the Downtown Loop,” said Sydni. “By prioritizing early outreach and education, the City has been able to gather valuable input and build community trust. Our team is grateful for the opportunity to support the City’s communication strategy and help foster transparency and collaboration.”
