Tripepi Smith has designed a comprehensive Fire-Savvy Landscape Guide to assist the City of Orinda in helping residents create fire-resistant landscapes that improve safety and sustainability. This newly designed 44-page guide offers expert recommendations for selecting plants and landscaping strategies that minimize wildfire risk while thriving in Orinda’s unique climate.

The guide features a curated selection of fire-resistant plants, along with practical advice on plant placement, maintenance, and irrigation. It also emphasizes the importance of creating defensible space around homes and provides landscaping tips to reduce the potential for fire spread. Junior Graphic Designer Jenna Haubruge executed the graphic design work to elevate the overall brochure.

“The revamped Orinda Plant Guide was a great project to collaborate on with our graphic design team,” said Tripepi Smith Business Analyst Skyler Addison. “By focusing on fire and drought-resistant plants, the guide not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of local landscapes but also helps protect homes from wildfire hazards. It’s a perfect example of how thoughtful design and expert information can work together to make a real difference in the community.”

The Fire-Savvy Landscape Guide is now available for download on the City of Orinda’s website. With its detailed content, the guide provides residents with the knowledge and tools needed to create safer, fire-resistant landscapes.

“Orinda is proud to support environmentally-conscious landscaping that enhances both beauty and safety in our community,” said Micki Cronin, Senior Management Analyst for the City of Orinda. “Tripepi Smith’s updates to the Plant Guide have provided residents with easy-to-follow information that promotes fire and drought resilience, making our city more prepared and sustainable.”

About the City of Orinda

The City of Orinda is located in southwest Contra Costa County, within 20 minutes of downtown San Francisco. Orinda was incorporated as a City in 1985, after more than 100 years of gradual development,  and the City has a reputation as a well-managed and stable municipal government and is a relatively new city. Orinda is a family-oriented community with a semi-rural setting. In contrast to the more urban existence of the surrounding area, the tree-studded hillsides of the 12.8 square-mile City contribute to Orinda’s aesthetic beauty.
