Dixon Grown DeliverablesThe City of Dixon partnered with Tripepi Smith to launch “Dixon Grown: From Our Roots to Our Future,” a community outreach and engagement initiative. The effort is part of a broader launch of public engagement work supported by the City Council, with this first phase focusing on development, housing and potential growth.

Facing state housing mandates and regional development pressures, the City sought a proactive way to help residents understand the complexities of local planning and development. The City has also observed comments and statements that suggested a greater understanding of development and housing policy that could inform more helpful community discussions. Tripepi Smith developed a strategic communications plan and created the project branding, led by Senior Business Analyst Kalee Cummings and supported by Business Analyst Morgan Teruel and Junior Business Analyst Benjamin Smith.

To establish a central information hub, the team built DixonGrown.com with help from Tripepi Smith Website Developer Max Weirauch and Junior Website Developer Kathleen Mercado. The site features project snapshots, maps, development timelines, answers to frequently asked questions and more. A multi-channel outreach effort drove participation in community workshops through social media, press releases, email blasts and print materials.

“We really wanted Dixon Grown to give residents a clear look at how local development works and allow them to share their opinions with the City while also expanding their understanding of the process,” said Economic Development Manager and Public Information Officer Madeline Graf. “Tripepi Smith was a great partner in helping us enable this level of transparency. Between building the website and facilitating the community workshops, they made sure our residents had everything they needed to engage with the process and we saw record attendance for our workshops.”

To support two-way dialogue, Tripepi Smith facilitated a virtual kickoff session on March 26, 2026, followed by five in-person roundtable discussions across each City Council district in April. Nearly 200 residents attended the two-hour workshops to learn about the local development process and share their priorities for Dixon’s future.

“Dixon City Council and City Staff have gone all in on public engagement and are committed to bringing diverse voices to the table. The turnout and energy in the room throughout these workshops was fantastic,” said Kalee. “At one point, a Dixon staff member told us working with Tripepi Smith was addicting — that’s a new one for us, and we loved hearing it. It speaks to the high degree of trust that Tripepi Smith built with the Dixon.”

The Dixon Grown initiative continues with ongoing communications and summer pop-up events, including Popsicles in the Park and Coffee with a Councilmember, as the City navigates upcoming development decisions and establishes a new standard for public engagement on community issues.
