Tripepi Smith
About Tripepi Smith
Tripepi Smith is a California-based marketing, technology and public affairs firm seeking to revolutionize communication and marketing in the local government world. We hire thoughtful people with diverse skills who can strategize and deliver on the communication needs of our clients.
Although we are California-based, Tripepi Smith has no office and offers a 100% work-from-home (“remote”) environment. There are occasional onsite client visits and in-person networking opportunities at industry events, even for newer teammates or more junior staff. While we recruit candidates who reside in the Western United States (CA, NM, AZ, WA and TX), our remote model means you have the flexibility to work from anywhere with a solid internet connection for a mutually agreeable amount of time —– enabling family visits, living abroad for a month, or working from a cabin in the mountains. But there are still opportunities to get to know your teammates, too. In addition to impromptu “huddle days” and joint attendance at conferences and client visits, each quarter the entire company comes together for Team Days to learn from one another, grow our personal relationships and tackle project work side-by-side.
Our work is mostly for local government public agency (cities, counties, water districts, special districts) clients. Therefore, as a junior-mid level videographer, this role includes learning about public agencies and local government policy in order to communicate for our clients in a meaningful way. Our typical services include: social media marketing, strategic communication planning, graphic design, ghost writing, collateral development, photography, video production, event support, video animation, digital advertising, press releases, email marketing campaigns and website design. The ideal candidate will be able to learn new technologies, skill sets and processes quickly while meeting deadlines with minimal daily supervision.
Core Job Functions
- Video Content Production – You will have ample opportunities to show off your video skills by producing a range of content for clients. Content may include, but is not limited to: social media posts/Stories, state of the city videos, PSAs, promo or highlight reels, brief on-the-street interviews, special event recording, council chamber video production and more. Additionally, digital animation skills can further supplement our diverse content creation capabilities.
- Full Scale Video Production – You may be tasked to be a one-person show to execute on a client video shoot. This work will involve scripting or storyboarding the shoot, recording high-quality video and audio, editing the footage and collaborating with the client on the needed revisions. Fundamentally, video production is more efficient with one set of hands on the wheel, so the artist in you can own the whole result. Senior videographers and project managers are available to mentor you, teach you techniques and offer feedback on your work product.
- Ninja Video Production – A stabilized smartphone with the right equipment can go a long way to quickly capture a story and provide timely impact. Going from smartphone capture to an edit on a smart phone and then pushing to social media will provide speedy delivery on certain critical messages while maintaining reasonable production quality.
- Event Live Streaming Support – Some clients want to go “live” from public spaces via YouTube, Facebook or Instagram. In these cases, you will be called upon to have the technical chops to make this happen, whether you are using a gimbaled iPhone or a tripod-mounted DSLR.
- Dominating at Zoom – Many of our clients are using Zoom to conduct public meetings and host town halls. Quality community experiences require a “Zoom engineer” who knows the ins and outs of the platform and can both configure it and manage it throughout an event. Often this may include integrating Zoom into city council meetings.
- Council Chamber Video Production – You will be onsite at city halls, usually in the evening, executing on the recording of council meetings. This work will include testing equipment prior to the meeting, reviewing the agenda to prepare lower-thirds and needed graphics, executing camera cuts and audio management throughout the production process and generating the video files that will be used to share the meeting recording with the public. This work can also entail managing the scheduler for cablecasting and assisting with various city clerk-related agenda management platforms. Additionally, you may be called upon to evaluate the chamber production equipment and make recommendations on how new hardware and related solutions could improve the overall production process.
- Photography Support – Your skills in video production could support photography skills, and you may be requested to provide photos services at events, take photos for stock video shoots or provide professional headshot photos.
- Event Production – Similar to Council Chamber Video Production, you may be called upon to design and set up AV equipment to support the production and recording of events such as concerts, dance performances or other staged activities. Work here can involve project management, A/V setup and design, even recording, camera operations, light/sound/camera switchboard operations, post-event clean up and post-event video editing and archiving.
- Drone Operations – Sometimes our production work may require a drone to be flown. Drone operators are FAA-licensed at Tripepi Smith and you may be called upon to complete the licensing process to fly one of our drones for photo and video work.
- Other duties as assigned by your Project Managers, Account Managers and Principals.
The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by team members in this job title. Tripepi Smith reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of any company function in order to meet the needs of the company and its clients.
