Tripepi Smith’s Always-Be-Learning (#ABL) culture drives us to stay up to speed on constantly changing social media platforms. This knowledge empowers our team to track, interpret and adapt to the latest and greatest social media trends on behalf of the public agencies we serve. The following is the latest installment of our regular roundup of social media news you need to know:
- TikTok’s CapCut is expanding its features for direct LinkedIn integration, allowing users to export videos straight from CapCut to the platform. Videos shared this way will display a “Made with CapCut” label above the caption, though LinkedIn has confirmed the tag won’t influence content ranking in the feed.
- Instagram is rolling out the ability to pin your own comments on posts, offering creators a new way to expand on captions or add context within the comment thread. The update is designed to help users provide clarification on, highlight key points or share additional insights alongside their content.
- Instagram has also started live testing a new picture-in-picture (PiP) option, which lets users continue watching Reels while navigating outside the app. With background-style viewing, the platform aims to increase retention and encourage longer watch times.
- Threads has launched a new 10,000-character text expansion for posts. The feature, accessible via a new icon in the composer, opens a blog-style editor where users can draft extended notes. These notes are then attached to the post and revealed to viewers through a “Read more” prompt, providing another way to spark deeper discussion within the app.
- X is rolling out a “View quotes” option in the post function bar. The feature gives users a quicker way to browse quoted posts directly from the expanded view. By removing the need to click the repost icon, X is streamlining how people follow broader conversations around a post.
