Across California, community choice aggregators (CCAs) continue to achieve new milestones in clean energy distribution, customer savings and environmental stewardship, many of which were celebrated in a recent press release from the California Community Choice Association (CalCCA). CalCCA is composed of operating CCAs and local governments interested in community choice, and advocates for CCAs in government forums such as the state legislature and regulatory agencies. As communications partners to CCAs across the state, Tripepi Smith celebrates these accomplishments and their impact on the future of our energy landscape.
As of November 7, 2024, California CCAs have signed 356 long-term contracts for clean energy projects, purchasing more than 18,000 megawatts (MW) of new solar, wind, geothermal and energy storage projects. 2024 saw the biggest increase in MW to date, with 4,300 MW of new contracts added in the past year.
These energy resources are serving 14 million CCA members across more than 200 cities and counties — more than a third of California’s population.
CCAs are supercharging the green energy transition, and are leveraging powerful financing tools to do it. The California Community Choice Financing Authority was formed to help CCAs finance energy purchases. By using these financial assets, CCAs have reduced energy costs by 10% or more for customers; these money-saving strategies have already saved Californians $84 million annually.
Alongside affordability, CCAs are boosting reliability by expanding energy storage resources. From lithium-ion batteries to cutting-edge technologies like vanadium redox flow and compressed air storage, these investments are ensuring a resilient grid for decades to come.
CCA projects aren’t just delivering clean energy — they’re driving economic growth across the country. They’ve already created 36,00 construction jobs and prompted $37 billion of investment in energy projects. CalCCA’s interactive map demonstrates the scale and impact of CCA projects, allowing viewers to explore by location and resource type.
CCAs are more than electricity providers — they’re simultaneously improving their local communities and California’s clean energy future. Tripepi Smith is proud to partner with CCAs to amplify their accomplishments and support their mission to create a cleaner, more equitable energy future.
