The Challenge

Scripps College, a prestigious women’s liberal arts institution founded in 1926, needed specialized expertise to enhance its semiannual magazine production. As one of The Claremont Colleges consortium members, Scripps faced the challenge of managing comprehensive magazine production alongside existing institutional priorities while maintaining their high editorial standards. The college required a consistent brand voice across multiple contributors, effective project workflow coordination and compelling content that would resonate with diverse audiences, including students, alumnae, faculty and prospective families. Additionally, they needed a partner who could adapt to their preferred Asana project management system and provide both strategic guidance and hands-on execution.

Our Approach

Tripepi Smith developed a phased engagement strategy that began with proofreading services for the Spring 2022 issue and evolved into full editorial management. The team proactively learned Scripps’ Asana project management system to ensure seamless collaboration, demonstrating our commitment to client-centric service delivery.

For the Fall 2022 issue, Tripepi Smith provided strategic guidance, project workflow management, editorial and creative direction, copyediting and production support for the 48-page publication, as well as writing a feature article welcoming President Suzanne Keen and crafting the presidential message on cultivating empathy. Tripepi Smith also contributed professional photography for the “Focus on the Faculty” and “Seen & Heard” departments. The Spring 2023 issue expanded the Tripepi Smith engagement to include additional project management, writing and creative direction.

Results

The partnership exceeded expectations, earning strong client satisfaction as expressed by Director of Creative and Editorial Strategy Maureen Panos: “It’s been a pleasure collaborating with Tripepi Smith on multiple projects this year, including the Scripps Magazine, and we appreciate their thought partnership and expertise. Their attention to detail, thoughtful planning and proactive communication style were instrumental in delivering a high-quality, timely fall issue.”

The engagement successfully expanded from single-project proofreading to ongoing collaboration spanning multiple publications and supplementary projects, including video production for the Schuler Access Initiative and social media monitoring. Our team consistently delivered on-time, high-quality publications while successfully integrating into Scripps’ workflow systems and maintaining their editorial standards. This partnership established Scripps as our fifth higher education client, joining Western University of Health Sciences, Claremont McKenna College, California State University San Marcos and California Institute of the Arts, demonstrating our growing expertise in the competitive higher education communications market.
