The Challenge

The City of Palmdale is a dynamic and uniquely expressive city brand with high design standards, a diverse portfolio of public-facing programs, and numerous internal stakeholders. The design needs span traditional civic communications, event marketing, department-specific campaigns, and branded sub-entities—from the Palmdale Amphitheater to economic development initiatives like “Film Palmdale.” The volume and pace of work heightens this complexity: the City regularly produces social content, signage, flyers, mailers, digital ads, banners and newsletters across multiple platforms and channels. The challenge is not only maintaining a consistent and professional brand image, but also responding with agility to high-volume requests—each with different goals, audiences and creative tones.

Our Approach

To meet Palmdale’s multifaceted design needs, Tripepi Smith functions as an embedded communications and creative services department—managing workflows through the City’s Asana-based project management system and collaborating across departments daily. We maintain and apply the City’s official brand guidelines while also managing a living “design preferences” document to track real-time style updates, voice shifts and stakeholder feedback.

Our team produces a high volume of creative assets across formats, ranging from quick-turn social media graphics and bilingual flyers to multichannel campaign suites and long-form collateral like the Palmdale Magazine and seasonal event promotion. While all materials align with core brand standards, each department and sub-brand is treated as a unique design voice. Economic development materials, for instance, strike a tone of regional opportunity and business readiness, while public safety materials emphasize clarity and community reassurance. At the same time, campaigns for DryTown Water Park, the Palmdale Playhouse, and the Palmdale Amphitheater are crafted to drive ticket sales and audience engagement.

A strong example of this was Palmdale’s State of the City event, where branding, print, digital, video and event-day materials all worked in concert to elevate the City’s message to residents and regional partners.

Our strategic content and outreach efforts have resulted in a 49.4% increase in followers on Facebook, Instagram and X, with an additional 27.8% growth on Nextdoor. This growth spans the City’s main government pages as well as department accounts, including Parks & Recreation, Palmdale Amphitheater, Palmdale Playhouse and DryTown Water Park.

Design consistency and creative agility have helped the City maintain community trust, support regional economic development goals and strengthen the visibility of its cultural and recreational assets.
